Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants have failed to reach an agreement over long-term contract extension, leaving the 26-year-old future to hang in the balance.
The deadline for franchise players is Monday and therefore Barkley has now 2 options: playing for $10.1m salary or taking the season off.
The Giants are yet to issue a statement concerning the situation.
Barkley was left disappointed with the lack of agreement after a brilliant season last year, which saw the running back notch 1,312 yards, 10 touchdowns an 57 interceptions.
The $10.1 million salary will leave Barkley among the NFL’s highest-paid running backs, but the 2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year felt it was a sign of disrespect after being one stars of the franchise for the past five years.
