AC Milan secured their spot in the Europa League last 16 with a 5-3 aggregate victory against Rennes, yet the night at Roazhon Park unfolded with plenty of drama, despite the seemingly comfortable scoreline.
Having carried a 3-0 lead from the first leg, Milan faced an early setback when Benjamin Bourigeaud’s precise strike found the net after 10 minutes. However, Luka Jovic’s well-timed header brought parity for Milan on the night.
Rennes regained the lead when Bourigeaud confidently converted a penalty early in the second half. Yet, their advantage was short-lived once again as Rafael Leao, following a solo run, leveled the score at 2-2.
The drama continued as Mike Maignan conceded another penalty, allowing Bourigeaud to complete his hat-trick and setting the stage for a potentially sensational finish. Nevertheless, AC Milan held their ground, ensuring a progression to the next round despite the tumultuous events at Roazhon Park.
