The Liverpool left-back clashed with Spain keeper Unai Simon during Scotland’s 2-0 defeat and was forced to leave the pitch.
“He’s had his surgery and it all went well, as good as it could be,” Liverpool’s head-coach Jurgen Klopp told a news conference.
“We don’t know how long it will take but the first step is done.”
Robertson has made 8 appearances for the Anfield team this campaign, scoring once. He was replaced in last weekend Merseyside derby by Kostas Tsimikas.
Klopp has already stated that center-back Joe Gomez can go in the right-back position if needed, so the Reds will not be without options. Next up on the road for them is an Europa League clash with French side Toulouse at Anfield on Thursday.
