Karim Benzema has put his name in the history books by becoming the first player to score in 4 different editions of the Club World Cup.

The Frenchman netted Al-Ittihad’s third goal in their convincing 3-0 defeat over Auckland City to qualify for the second round, where they will face Al-Ahly.

Romarinho opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a deflected effort before former Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante doubled the lead five minutes later.

Then came the historic moment with Benzema, who has enjoyed success at this tournament with Real Madrid. Auckland were unable to find any sort of answer as the Saudi team sets up a Friday clash against the African champions.
