Spain international Olga Carmona had an emotional rollercoaster day on Sunday as her team won the world title with a 1-0 win over England in the final of the tournament. However, it turned out that shortly after the match, she learned that her father had passed away.
He died on Friday, but it was kept a secret from her – presumably so she could focus on the match for the title.
The 23-year-old Carmona scored the winning goal for “La Roja” in the 29th minute of the final with a beautiful shot with her left foot.
Spain have announced that Olga Carmona’s father has died.

It made an impression that in her joy at the goal, she lifted her jersey, and underneath it she had written “Merchi”. This was Olga’s message in memory of her best friend who recently lost her mother.
