Boston reaches NBA Finals for the second time in three seasons

Derrick White, who had been struggling from beyond the arc, missing 7 of his 8 three-point attempts, found himself in a crucial position in the final minute of a tied game with an NBA Finals berth at stake.

Positioned in the right corner, White watched as his Boston Celtics teammate, Jaylen Brown, handled the ball. Anticipating the pass, White was ready to seize the moment once Brown delivered.

White’s patience paid off as he drained the three-pointer with 45 seconds remaining, helping the Celtics secure a 105-102 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Monday night in Indianapolis. This win completed a four-game sweep in the Eastern Conference finals, propelling the Celtics to the NBA Finals for the second time in the past three seasons.

Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 29 points, while Jayson Tatum contributed significantly with 26 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists. The top-seeded Celtics displayed their resilience by overcoming a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter and executing better basketball in the game’s critical moments.

For the Pacers, Andrew Nembhard had a standout performance with 24 points and a playoff career-high 10 assists. Despite their efforts, the sixth-seeded Pacers fell short in the East finals for the eighth time in nine attempts. Their only victory in the conference finals came against the New York Knicks in 2000.
