The Chicago Blackhawks signed veteran Josh Bailey from the New York Islanders today. Right after that, the franchise put him on unconditional waivers for the goal of a buyout.
The #Isles have traded forward Josh Bailey and 2026 2nd round pick to the #Blackhawks.
The Islanders will lose their Assistant Captain and longest tenured player in the deal that frees up much needed cap space to sign their pending free agents.

Chicago also acquired a 2nd round pick in 2026 for future considerations.
The 9th overall pick at the 2008 NHL Draft, Josh played 1,057 matches in his NHL career in 15 campaigns with the franchise. Bailey is 3rd all-time in matches played in the Islanders’ history. In the past season, he played 64 matches as he, scored 8 goals and gave 17 assists.
In his career, he notched 184 goals and had 196 assists.
He was also part of the Canadian national team at the 2018 IIHF World Hockey Championship in Denmark.
Josh was scheduled to begin the final season of a 6-year, 30-million contract. While Josh’s cap is 5 million dollars, his real salary is 3.5 million.
