Three of the four applications for a place in Formula 1 have been rejected by the FIA. As expected, only Michael Andretti’s team – Andretti Global, which enjoys the support of the giant General Motors and its Cadillac brand, continues forward with their project to enter F1.
Formula 2 teams Hitech and Rodin Carlin were rejected, as well as Asian startup LKYSUNZ. However, the FIA has not yet officially announced this decision, but several sources from the Mohammed bin Sulayem administration have confirmed that only Andretti is advancing to the final stage of negotiations.
However, this is only a prelude to the big battle that awaits Andretti, if and when received the FIA’s approval to enter Formula 1, as the teams and the championship’s commercial rights owner are still against. The teams want the entry fee to be increased from $200 million to $600 million, and Stefano Domenicali explained that F1 does not really need a new team.
