Despite Red Bull dominating and winning all 12 races from the 2023 season, Lewis Hamilton hasn’t given up hope of his team clinching a win even with an inferior car.
The 38-year-old claimed pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix, his first pole since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2021, where he also clinched his last victory.
Despite not being able to convert in Budapest, Hamilton views this as a positive experience, one which draws him closer to the eventual race victory.
“At the moment, I’m not quite sure we can currently compete with [Red Bull] on race pace. I think there were times in [Hungary] Max was around eight tenths faster than everyone on a single lap. But never say never.” he commented.
Hamilton currently sits 4th in the Drivers Standings, a point adrift from Fernando Alonso in third. The 7-time world champion emphasized the importance of securing second place in the Constructors, where Mercedes currently find themselves in a scramble with Aston Martin and Ferrari.
