Parise netted the tiebreaker at 17:17 of the third, playing his 1,200th game

Zach Parise, appearing in his 1,200th career game, scored the go-ahead goal at 17:17 of the third period as the New York Islanders defeated the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins 5-4 at UBS Arena on Friday night.

Parise became the 12th active skater to reach the milestone, and the fourth active U.S.-born skater.

Anders Lee had two goals and an assist as he became the ninth player in Islanders history to record seven or more seasons with 20-plus goals.

Ilya Sorokin finished with 40 saves and the Islanders snapped a three-game skid that included two overtime losses.

Mathew Barzal added two assists.

Rickard Rakell netted twice, including his 20th of the season, and Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist as the Penguins lost for the second time in three games.

Crosby became the third player in NHL history to record 130 career points against the Islanders, joining Jaromir Jagr and Mario Lemieux.

Casey DeSmith stopped 29 shots.

The Islanders visit Boston Bruins on Saturday while the Penguins host New Jersey Devils on Sunday.
