The visitors started the game strongly as Julian Ryerson put them in front as early as the 5th minute.
Xabi Alonso responded with high pressing and control of the ball, but were unable to convert their advantage. They even had a goal disallowed just before half-time as VAR intervened.
The Bundesliga leaders continued their intensive pressure, but Dortmund’s defense seemed tough to crack.
But in the 79th minute, central forward Victor Boniface carved them open with slick finish to draw the game level. The hosts tried everything to make a complete turnaround, but Edin Terzic’s men held on.
Leverkusen remain leaders with 35 points, as Bayern Munich’s game was postponed due to poor weather. Dortmund, meanwhile, sit 5th, ten points adrift from the top.
