Atalanta secured a 2-1 victory over Milan in a quarterfinal clash of the Italian Cup at San Siro. It is Atalanta’s second win over the Rossoneri in two games, played in just over one month. On December 9 they defeated Milan 3-2 in Bergamo.
Towards the end of the first half of regular time, Milan launched a superb attack, culminating in Leao’s precise left-footed strike that beat Atalanta’s goalkeeper, giving Milan a 1-0 lead.
The joy for the hosts was short-lived, as in the second minute of extra time, Milan’s defense was caught napping and Mike Maignan couldn’t make the save against Koopmeiner’s shot and the score was quickly leveled.
In the 57th minute, Miranchuk surged into the penalty area from the right. The guest player went down after a series of feints against Gimenez, resulting in contact between them. Referee Di Bello pointed to the penalty spot. Koopmeiners stepped up and calmly converted, completing the comeback for Atalanta.

Two minutes before the end of regular time, Musah also tested the guests’ keeper, but he intervened excellently to make the save.
In the last moments of extra time, Milan took a corner, leading to a shot towards Carnezis’s goal. The ball met Holm’s hand and Milan had claims for a penalty, which, however, were not acknowledged by the referee.
