The Spaniard is suffering from a hip injury, he picked during the Australian Open

Rafael Nadal is aiming to make a comeback from his hip injury at the Monte Carlo Masters next mount, organizers said on Wednesday.

The 22-time Grand Slam winner has been out of play ever since the 2nd round loss against American Mackenzie McDonald at the Australian open and has missed elusive tournaments like Indian Wells and Miami.

The Monte Carlo Masters begins on 8 April and tournament director David Massey is feeling optimistic about Nadal’s chances of recovery.

“Rafa was the first (player) to be registered,” Massey said in statement.

“He really wants to play at the Monte Carlo Masters and is giving himself every chance to take part in the tournament he’s so fond of.”

Nadal holds the record for the most wins in the tournament (11), including 8 titles in a row from 2005 to 2012, which is unmatched in the Open Era.

The Spaniard will use the event as a preparation for the Roland Garros, which starts on 28 June.
