The best American sprinter will miss the 4x100 meters relay at the World Relays Championships in Nassau

American sprinter Noah Lyles has decided to skip the 4x400m relay at the World Relays Championships in Nassau this weekend. Despite this, Lyles remains steadfast in his ambition to secure four medals at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris this summer.

Lyles, who clinched three gold medals at the World Championships in Budapest last year – triumphing in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay events – also showcased his talent at the indoor global stage in Glasgow earlier this year, securing silver medals in the 60m and with the US 4x400m relay team.

However, Lyles’ involvement in the relay team sparked controversy, with Fred Kerley, the 2022 100m champion and Tokyo Olympics silver medalist, criticizing the US federation for favoring Lyles over other athletes.

While Lyles refrained from divulging all the details, he acknowledged the discontent among coaches whose athletes were excluded from the relay team despite competing in the heats in Glasgow.

The decision to include Lyles in the relay squad stirred up “a lot of controversy,” with many individuals in the US expressing their dissatisfaction. In response to the criticism, Lyles challenged his detractors, stating, “run faster, beat me!”
