Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic continued to add to his name as 1 of the best National Basketball Association players ever by triumphing with his 3rd Most Valuable Player award today.
The Serbian won the trophy for the 3rd time in 4 campaigns, succeeding last campaign’s MVP. Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid. Nikola beat Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the OKC and Luka Doncic of the Mavs, who finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the pool.
“I got to begin with the teammates; without them, I cannot achieve anything,” the Serbian shared on TNT after winning the award.
Nikola’s 3rd Most Valuable Player triumph wasn’t close. Jokic had 79 1st-placed votes and a total of 926 points. Gilgeous-Alexander got 15 1st-placed votes and 640 points. Luka received 4 1st-placed votes and 566 points.
In the top 5, we will also find Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo and Knicks’ Jalen Brunson.
Nikola is the 1st center in 6 decades to secure the trophy 3 times in 4 campaigns as only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar did it in the past.
Asked Nikola Jokić about having his family in the room with him for the announcement and reactions and he said: “I didn’t invite them, they just showed up.” 😂
“It’s a special moment I’m probably going to remember my whole life. It’s – I like to say- a legacy for after career.” pic.twitter.com/zhqx4SaSjl
