Washington forwards Alexander Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom and defenseman John Carlson entered their 15th season with the Capitals in the NHL.
They became just the seventh trio in NHL history to play at least 15 seasons together. However, their record is not the highest among current players, as Sidney Corsby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang of the Pittsburgh Penguins are in their 17th season playing alongside each other.
Ovechkin, Backstrom and Karlsson began their season number 15 together precisely against the Penguins. Unfortunately for them, they lost 0:4 at home, and Malkin and Crosby scored in the match.

The final goal for the Penguins was scored by Riley Smith, who was recruited in the summer of the Vegas Golden Knights champion. In their next game, the Capitals will host the Calgary Flames.
