The San Diego Padres have announced they are hiring Mike Shildt as their new manager two years after he was suddenly sacked by the St. Louis Cardinals.
It is a two year contract, which ties the coach with the club until 2025.

Shildt takes the place of Bob Melvin, who was lured by the San Francisco Giants on October 25, despite having an year left on his contract.
Shildt was voted NL Manager of the Year in 2019 while with the Cardinals. He takes over a big-spending team that has disappointed majorly in 2023. So the 55-year-old has been given the big task of sparking life back at San Diego after a season full of frustrations.
