The San Diego Padres defeated the Cleveland Guardians in a convincing fashion 5-0 on Wednesday night.

Michael Wanda pitched seven shoutout innings for his 7th win of the season, while Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado each had a solo homer.
Juan Soto and Nelso Cruz also homered, as the Padres played an almost perfect game. The have the opportunity to go three up against the Guardians and reach .500 for the first time in over a month.
“With the talent that these guys have, you get it in the air and it is going to go,” San Diego manager Bob Melvin said. “He (Wacha) is spoiling us, really.”
Tatis led the way with his 14th homer of the season against Aaron Civale. Machado gave the Padres a 2-0 lead in the third with a solo homer to left-center, also against Civale, who gave up to runs in 3 2/3 innings.
Tatis hit his second double of the night in the sixth with two of the bases empty. Soto followed it up to make it 4-0.
