Kiefer Sherwood showcased his scoring prowess with two goals, and Juuse Saros demonstrated solid goaltending with 23 saves, leading the Nashville Predators to their fourth consecutive victory with a 4-2 win over the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night.
Contributing to Nashville’s success, Gustav Nyquist and Filip Forsberg each had a goal and an assist. This victory propelled the Predators two points ahead of St. Louis and Minnesota in the tight race for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Notably, it marked the ninth consecutive win for Nashville over the Sharks.
Sherwood opened the scoring for Nashville at the 10:14 mark of the first period, capitalizing on a Michael McCarron pass from the left corner. The Predators extended their lead to 2-0 in the late second period, courtesy of Forsberg’s power-play goal, his 27th of the season.
Mikael Granlund narrowed the gap for San Jose to 2-1 early in the third period with his seventh goal, ending a goalless streak for the Sharks. Sherwood then increased the Predators’ lead to 3-1, showcasing his scoring abilities on a 2-on-1 break.
Filip Zadina brought the Sharks back into contention, making it 3-2 midway through the third period. However, Nyquist sealed the victory for the Predators with an empty-netter in the final seconds after San Jose pulled their goalie for an extra attacker.
The win solidified Nashville’s position in the playoff race, while the Sharks suffered their third consecutive loss in a competitive Western Conference battle.
