Rookie goaltender Sebastian Cossa made 12 saves in relief of Ville Husso and earned a win in his NHL debut. Alex DeBrincat and Lucas Raymond also scored for the Red Wings.
The Sabres, now winless in seven straight games (0-5-2), got two goals and an assist from Jason Zucker. Tage Thompson, Zach Benson, and Nicolas Aube-Kubel also scored. James Reimer made 26 saves in his first start since November 30.
Thompson, returning from injury on November 27, scored his 15th goal of the season and has four goals in his last four games. Ryan McLeod nearly ended the game for Buffalo in overtime, but his breakaway shot hit the post.
Lucas Raymond’s assist on Seider’s goal was his 122nd career assist, tying him with Gabriel Landeskog for fourth-most assists by a Swedish player before turning 23. The Sabres conclude their five-game homestand against the Rangers on Wednesday, while the Red Wings face the Flyers in Philadelphia on Thursday.
