The driver was emotional in interviews after the race, where he set the fastest lap on his final lap, as the rumors were that this was his last competition in F1.
The RB team revealed today that Lawson will step in for Ricciardo from the U.S. GP until the end of the season. Liam joined the RB pilot programme 5 years ago.
Lawson raced for the team in 5 starts in the past year as reserve for Daniel, who broke a bone in his hand during practice for the Dutch GP.
That means that Ricciardo career in the Formula 1 is most likely finished. Daniel won 7 races in his original stint with Red Bull between 2014 and 2018, also claiming win at the 2021 Italian GP for McLaren.
