Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco was placed on administrative leave by the league today amid probes into relationships he has with girls under 18 years old in the Dominican Republic, where he was born.
Wander (22), who didn’t play the past week after Tampa Bay put him on the restricted list, is currently investigated by the police in his native country, as well as by Major League Baseball.
MLB has placed Wander Franco on administrative leave as the league and authorities in the Dominican Republic continue their investigation.

He doesn’t currently face charges, but the prosecutor shared a few days ago that they will go thoroughly with the investigation and then file a charge against Franco.
The administrative leave means that the shortstopper will not be part of the Rays roster during the investigation. He can be on administrative leave indefinitely if the MLB Players Association agrees that the step is necessary.
