The news arrived in the wake of Friday night’s match vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets when the goalkeeper allowed 6 goals on 21 shots in a 6-5 OT defeat.
“The mistakes can’t be tolerated when you don’t make saves. It’s the National Hockey League, and we need saves, and we need points, and we need victories, so I’m sure the GM will consider everything,” Toronto manager Sheldon Keefe shared after the defeat.
Samsonov’s began from the 1st minute against the Blue Jackets for the 3rd time in as many matches as the goalie from Russia had surrendered 5 or more goals. Samsonov allowed 5 goals before being replaced against the Buffalo Sabres on December 21st.
Ilya inked a 1-year, 3.55 million dollar deal for the current campaign with Toronto after contract arbitration during the offseason.
