Crucial center Elias Pettersson and the Vancouver Canucks have agreed to an 8-season, 92.8 million dollar deal extension, ending rumors about the star’s future with the team.
Elias (25) has 75 points in 62 matches since the beginning of the campaign, including 29 goals. Over 6 National Hockey League campaigns, Pettersson has 165 goals and 233 assists in 387 matches. Vancouver selected him 5th overall at the 2017 NHL Draft.
“I’m really satisfied to be continuing my career as a player of the Vancouver Canucks. I admire this city and playing in front of the supporters. We have an excellent team, and I think we can succeed in the upcoming seasons,” Pettersson shared after inking his 8-year contract.
His deal would see him earn 11.6 million dollars per year, giving Elias the 5th highest cap hit of any player in the league next campaign behind Matthews from the Maple Leafs, MacKinnon from the Avalanche, McDavid from the Oilers, and Panarin from the Rangers.
Pettersson’s salary for the next campaign (14.5 million dollars) ranks behind only Auston (16.7 million dollars) and Nathan (16.5 million dollars).
“Really excited for him and our team…Everyone here is really happy for him and proud, and happy he’ll be here for awhile.”
