Adrian Newey, the most successful designer in Formula 1 history, was in negotiations with Ferrari for the next stage of his career but is now expected to join Aston Martin instead.
Speculation about Newey’s potential move to the Scuderia had been swirling, but Ferrari’s team principal Frédéric Vasseur confirmed that discussions with Newey ultimately fell through.

“Yes, we negotiated with Adrian Newey, but his ideas differed from what I was willing to offer,” Vasseur explained. “We may find common ground later, but I’ve always said one person cannot change the results of an entire team. A group is always stronger than one engineer.”
Ferrari was initially seen as the favorite to secure Newey’s services, but negotiations reportedly stumbled due to Newey’s financial demands and his insistence on hiring 20 specific engineers. Vasseur allegedly pulled back from the deal, citing concerns over compliance with the sport’s budget cap, which could have been jeopardized by Newey’s conditions.
According to reports, Newey has agreed to terms with Aston Martin, where he is expected to sign a contract worth €100 million over three years. The move is seen as a major coup for Aston Martin, as they aim to elevate their position in the highly competitive world of Formula 1.
