The Dutchman had to overcome an unexpected obstacle at the beginning, when he was overtaken off the line by Lando Norris and nearly lost a place to the second McLaren of Oscar Piastri.
However, as soon as the DRS was enabled Verstappen restored his lead with clean overtake on Norris at the Wellington straight and dominated the race from then onwards.
The McLarens held their ground and were easily the second fastest car on the grid. An untimely Safety Car cost Oscar Piastri third place, as he had already made his scheduled pit stop with Lewis Hamilton emerging just ahead of him.
The 7-time world champion was fortunate as he managed to jump 4 cars in the Safety Car pitstop to put on the soft tires. He even had a chance of clinching 2nd, but Norris courageosly held off his compatriot to the delight of the home crowd.
George Russell crossed the line in 5th as Sergio Perez came home in 6th on a recovery drive from yet another poor qualifying session.
As things stand, Verstappen is currently 99 points ahead of his teammate in the Drivers Standings and nothing short of a miracle will stop him from clinching his third world title.
