The 40-year-old veteran has no plans to retire after last year's serious injury

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has admitted that his performance this season hasn’t met his expectations, but he remains optimistic about continuing his NFL career. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, the 40-year-old Rodgers said he “thinks” he’ll be back for another season, despite acknowledging that he has not played up to his personal standard.

Rodgers is coming off a challenging comeback year. In 2023, his first season with the Jets, he suffered a torn left Achilles tendon just four plays into the season opener, sidelining him for the rest of the year. This season, his numbers have been below his usual standards, ranking 23rd in the NFL with an 86.8 passer rating. His completion percentage stands at 62.4%, with 2,258 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. These figures reflect some of the lowest stats in terms of completion percentage, yards per attempt, and touchdown rate of his two-decade career.

Despite the team’s disappointing 3-7 record, Rodgers remains unfazed about his future. He stressed that the team’s struggles haven’t negatively influenced his outlook, reinforcing his competitive drive to meet the high standards he sets for himself.

Rodgers is under contract with the Jets for another season, which includes a $2.5 million base salary and a $35 million option bonus. His return could be pivotal for the Jets, who started the season with high expectations but have struggled to live up to them.
