The world No.2 beat the German 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 and put his name in the history books as he became only the second player to defend his title in Madrid after Rafael Nadal achieved that feat in 2013 and 2014.
Alcaraz put his foot down early on and comfortably clinched the first set. However, he struggled in the 2nd and the stubborn Struff took full advantage and leveled the score at 1-1.
That left the match wide open for the deciding set, but the world No.2 showed his true class and pulled away with a break in the opening games. After that he cleanly finished the set and sealed the victory.
