Carlos Alcaraz lost a set but continues his run at the Australian Open with a 3-1 victory over Lorenzo Sonego in a match that lasted about 3 and a half hours.
The first set was decided by a single break, in favor of Alcaraz. However, in the second set, neither player managed to break the other’s serve, leading to a tiebreak. Sonego displayed stronger nerves and won it 7-3.
Despite losing the second set, the Spaniard maintained his focus and started the third set perfectly, winning a service game and breaking for a 2-0 lead. This break was enough for Alcaraz to clinch the set.
The fourth set began with an exchange of breaks in the first two games, the only breaks in the set, leading to a second tiebreak in the match. This time, the world number 2 was more stable, winning it 7-3 and securing both the set and the match.
In the next round, Alcaraz will face the winner of the match between Sumit Nagal and Jiuncheng Shang.
