It seems certain that Alfa Romeo is bidding farewell to Formula 1. The termination of the Italian brand’s role as Sauber’s primary sponsor at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, coupled with stalled negotiations with Haas, has dimmed the prospects of a successful continuation.
Speculation arose during the Monaco Grand Prix about Alfa Romeo engaging in talks with Haas. The proposed scenario involved rebranding the Ferrari engines used by the team, allowing Alfa Romeo to persist in the sport as a “supplier” of power units.
In 2019, Alfa Romeo, having agreed with Sauber, became the main sponsor of the Hinwil-based team with the option to alter its name—an arrangement that seemed mutually beneficial and reasonably priced.
