Despite 2-0 victory the Austin team crashed out of the Concacaf Champions League 3-2 on aggregate

Austin FC defeated Haitain side Violette 2-0 on Tuesday night, but unfortunately for them it was not enough to see them through as they lost the first leg 3-0.

Austin were the more aggresive team as they looked to overcome a mountainous deficit, taking advantage of Violette shortened team after some players failed to arrive due to visa issues.

Austin were led by their talisman Sebastian Driussi, who scored two goals in the second half to put his team on the verge of a historic comeback.

Unfortunately for them, fortune was not on their side as their effort came to no avail.

Controversial referee decisions were present as VAR got into the actions twice in the 25th minute, ruling out Driussi goal for an offside, and then again in the 71st minute when it ruled “no penalty” after striker Gyasi Zardes seemed to be fouled inside the penalty box.

This is a huge blow for Austin, being eliminated by a clearly weaker side, who could produce only 6 shots on the night, as opposed to Austin’s 35. However, despite the avalanche of efforts, Austin are out of the CCL and will be looking to bounce back in the MLS.

On the other hand, the unbelievable fairy tale journey of Violette FC continues as nobody expected a team from such small calibre to reach this stage.
