Mikko Rantanen scored twice and had two assists; J.T Compher also scored before Nathan MacKinnon snatched the victory with 44.3 remaining in overtime. Goaltender Pavel Francouz made his first appearance for nearly two months and made 19 saves.
Colorado looked to be beaten as they were two goals down in the third period. But they kept their composure and produced a fine comeback to move two points clear of Dallas at the top of the Central Division.
“Well, it’s a good spot to be in with three games left or whatever, but there’s still work to be done because we’ve seen the standings flip flop all year long,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said.
Frank Vatrano scored twice for the Ducks, while Adam Henrique and Bread Leason added another one each. Goaltender Lukas Dostal saved 41 shots.
“Our guys are full of fire,” Ducks head-coach Dallas Eakins said after the game.
“They’re working hard for each other, and they’re trying to support each other, and they’ve competitive people.”
Avalanche await Edmonton on Tuesday night, whereas the Ducks host Vancouver the same day.
