Bert Watts joins Panthers as their new Safeties coach

The Carolina Panthers have hired Bert Watts as their new Safeties coach, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The #Panthers will hire Bert Watts as their safeties coach, source said. He coached #Broncos OLBs last season and is highly thought of within coaching circles as a future defensive coordinator.

This is the third defensive assistant that new Panthers’ Defensive Coordinator Ejiro Evero has stolen from his former workplace, joining the likes of linebackers coach Peter Hansen and defensive assistant Dom Capers.

Watts, who is uncle of Panther’s TE Tommy Tremble, had already worked for the Denver Broncos nearly a decade ago and was serving as outside linebackers coach and special team coordinator at Auburn Tigers.

He has vast experience at the collegiate level, also working at the University of Memphis, Fresno State University, and the University of California-Davis.
