Brighton attacker Kaoru Mitoma will likely miss the remainder of the campaign with a back problem, head coach Roberto De Zerbi revealed today.

“I believe we have lost Kaoru until the end of the campaign,” De Zerbi shared with the reporters ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup 5th-round match at Wolverhampton. “It’s a huge problem. I think 2 or 3 months, finished the campaign.”
The Japanese winger played a crucial role in the past campaign as the Seagulls qualified for European football for the 1st time, although he has netted just 3 goals in 19 games during that period.
Mitoma was out with an ankle problem in December but was still called up from his country to participate in the Asian Cup, which ended at the beginning of February. Iran eliminated Japan in the ¼ finals.
Kaoru’s problem only adds to the team’s injury crisis, with the Seagulls missing 9 footballers for the Wolverhampton game.
“[Evan] Ferguson on Wednesday, he can’t be on the pitch [due to an ankle problem]. [Danny] Welbeck has a problem, and the forward is questionable for the clash,” De Zerbi added.
“[Joel] Veltman also won’t be available for the FA Cup match, and the other footballers injured can’t play.”
