Novak Djokovic has received £6,117 for smashing his racquet against the net post in his final loss to Carlos Alcaraz.
The incident happened in the final, when Alcaraz managed to break the Serb’s serve, which eventually proved enough to clinch the set and the match.
Umpire Fergus Murphy immediately took action and issued Djokovic a warning for code violation.
The 36-year-old was infuriated after a missed opportunity to go 2-0 up after a mistake on a simple volley. The emotions were running high in a breath-taking match and the Serb’s frustration eventually got the better off him.
The fine will be deducted from Djokovic’ runner-up cheque.
In the end, Carlos Alcaraz triumphed after 4 hours and 42 minutes for his 2nd Grand Slam title, first at Wimbledon, denying his record-equalling 8th title.
