The Memphis Grizzlies emerged victorious for the first time of the new 2023-24 campaign with 112-100 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night.
It was a scruffy affair as Memphis had to squeeze it out to the end, but they eventually prevailed.

Desmond Bane scored 30 points, while Jaren Jackson Jr. added another 27.
“We’ve been competing, growing and learning a lot. A lot of people are getting new opportunities,” Bane said. “I’m happy with where we’re headed and how we played tonight.”
Jerami Grant was the highest scorer with 30 points for the Blazers, who snapped a 3-game winning streak.
The Portland team had a commanding advantage of 86-62 heading into the final quarter, but their morale dropped after an incident forced Robert Williams III to limp off the court.
“You’ve got to celebrate, you know how hard it is to win this league. We’re going to enjoy this one for sure,” Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins said. “It’s been a difficult first couple of weeks. But as I’ve said, our guys are resilient. They respond. We’ve been competitive every single night, sometimes it hasn’t gone our way.”
