Oliver Bjorkstrand proved to be the hero for Seattle as he bagged home both goals for a clutch win. Goaltender Philipp Grubauer was also outstanding as he made 33 saves.
The Kraken became the first expansion team to eliminate the defending Stanley Cup champions in NHL history.
Mikko Rantanen scored a power-play goal for Colorado. Nathan MacKinnon seemed to have equalized at the beginning of the third period but a challenge from Seattle saw the goal overturned.
The Avalanche threw everything at the end, pulling goaltender Georgiev, but to no avail as they succumb to sixth consecutive loss in Game 7.
The Kraken await the Stars for the 2nd round playoff, the first game of which will be held in Dallas on Tuesday night.
