Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to four points by staging a comeback to defeat Luton at Anfield.
Despite Chiedozie Ogbene’s first-half header giving Luton the lead, Liverpool, particularly Luis Diaz, missed numerous opportunities. In the second half, Liverpool’s relentless pressure paid off when Virgil van Dijk, showing determination, equalized with a powerful header from a 56th-minute corner.
Just two minutes later, Liverpool took the lead as Cody Gakpo nodded in from close range after Alexis Mac Allister delivered a cross from the byline.
Diaz, on his ninth attempt of the game, finally found the net in the 71st minute, dancing into the box and calmly slotting the ball beyond Thomas Kaminski at the near post. Harvey Elliott, marking his 100th appearance for the club, sealed a splendid second half with a goal in the 90th minute by capitalizing on a loose ball, securing a 4-1 victory.
This victory marked Liverpool’s third consecutive win after a 3-1 loss to Arsenal last month and provided additional momentum as they prepare for the EFL Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side now holds a four-point lead over second-placed Manchester City, albeit having played one more game than the defending champions. Luton remains in the relegation zone, sitting third from the bottom.
