Bordeaux, a 6th-time winner of the Ligue 1 with their most recent title in 2009, are at the moment appealing versus a decision to relegate the team to the 3rd tier and are looking to secure guarantees of financing for the upcoming campaign.
“FC Girondins de Bordeaux and its shareholder became aware by Fenway Sports Group of its choice not to buy the team,” the French club shared today. “The reasons for not buying the team feature the high cost of the stadium over the next several years and the general economic climate in the league.”
Ligue 1 secured a contract a few days ago for the domestic broadcast rights for the next campaign after failing to do so all summer. DAZN and beIN Sports will pay almost 550 million dollars for the next 5 campaigns.
