Legendary Dutch goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has been admitted to hospital due to a brain haemorrhage, Ajax announced, where the 52-year-old former football player worked until recently as a director.

“On Friday, Edwin van der Sar suffered a hemorrhage around his brain. He is currently in hospital in intensive care and is in a stable condition. You are in our thoughts”, reads the statement of the Amsterdam club on social networks.


According to information from Dutch journalist Mike Verwey, Van der Sar’s hemorrhage occurred while he was on vacation in Croatia. He was rushed to a hospital in Split by helicopter.
