Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown has signed a three-year, $30 million contract extension. This announcement, which comes a month and a half after initial reports, marks a significant moment for the Kings, who have struggled with coaching stability over the past 16 seasons.
“I love being in Sacramento and I am excited for this next chapter,” Brown expressed in a press release. His impact on the team has been substantial, bringing a sense of stability that has been lacking since Rick Adelman’s departure in 2006. Under Brown’s leadership, the Kings have seen notable progress, culminating in their first playoff appearance since the Adelman era during the 2022-23 season.
“Mike has done a tremendous job leading our team and this extension is well deserved,” said Kings general manager Monte McNair. “His commitment to success is second to none and I look forward to building on the foundation he’s helped establish in Sacramento.”

In his two seasons with the Kings, Brown has led the team to a 94-70 regular season record. His overall career coaching record stands at 441-286, which includes six seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, parts of two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, and his current tenure with the Kings. His playoff record is 50-40, with a notable achievement of taking the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals in 2007, where they were defeated by the San Antonio Spurs.
