The Devils defenceman is banned for 2 games.

New Jersey Devils player Brendan Smith has been banned for 2 matches for slashing Philadelphia Flyers attacker Travis Konecny, NHL Player Safety shared today.

The defenceman was also fined 50,000 dollars, the maximum amount that the league can fine him.

The episode happened in the 3rd period of his organization’s 4-3 OT victory against Philadelphia.

While moving towards the bench, Konecny struck Smith across the back with his stick before the New Jersey player retaliated with a slash across the chest, leaving the Flyers forward in pain.

Brendan was given a minor penalty for slashing on the play, while his opponent was not punished for his actions during the incident. Despite that, New Jersey went on to triumph 4-3 in the overtime.
