Sergio Perez is heading into his home race in Mexico acknowledging that his season has fallen short of expectations. The Red Bull driver, currently eighth in the drivers’ standings, has struggled to keep pace with his teammate Max Verstappen, who is dominating the championship with seven wins. Perez hasn’t finished higher than sixth in his last 13 races, and his performance has contributed to Red Bull’s slip in the constructors’ standings, where they now trail McLaren by 40 points with only five races remaining.
🚨 | Christian Horner says he needs Sergio Perez to step up and help Red Bull in the Constructors’ Championship.

Perez expressed hope for a strong performance, saying, “If I had a strong result, it can definitely change my season massively in terms of personal feeling. So I’m really up for it.” He also commented on Red Bull’s overall goals, emphasizing the importance of maximizing the car’s performance to reclaim their lead over McLaren and fend off Ferrari, who are just eight points behind following Charles Leclerc’s recent success.
Despite his challenges, Red Bull opted to retain Perez after the season’s first half, offering him a chance to recover and potentially contribute to the team’s constructors’ title aspirations in the remaining races.
