Sinner, who has been in impressive form recently, struggled with a right hip injury throughout the match. The 22-year-old was seen frequently massaging the affected area, raising concerns about his fitness with the US Open just two weeks away.
Reflecting on the win, Rublev expressed his respect for Sinner, acknowledging his remarkable performance over the past two years. The 26-year-old Russian played two matches on the same day due to rain delays, having earlier defeated American qualifier Brandon Nakashima 6-2, 6-2 in the last 16.
He also noted that this win means a lot to him as he has been struggling with mental issues.
