Andrey Rublev sailed past Alex Molcan 6-3, 6-4 to progress to the 3rd round of the Italian open in the only match, played today as play was severely hampered due to heavy rain.
The match was delayed by almost two hours and when play resumed it was the Russian, who asserted dominance on the court.
The game was stopped once again in the first set and when it was resumed for the second time the 6th-seeded player tried to make the most of a dry court, before rain intervened once again.
“I can rest now and I can rest tomorrow. I don’t need to stress waiting,” said Rublev.
“It’s very lucky when you are able to finish just before the rain and you know that most of the players still didn’t play.”
Rublev will face either Alejandro Davidovich Fokina or Guido Pella in the 3rd round.
