Aryna Sabalenka secured her place in the Australian Open final with an exhilarating straight-sets victory over Coco Gauff. The defending champion sought revenge for her defeat to Gauff in the US Open final last September, employing her aggressive style to overcome Gauff’s resilient play and clinch a 7-6 6-4 triumph.

Maintaining her flawless record of not dropping a set in the tournament, Sabalenka faced a formidable challenge from Gauff in a tense clash between two reigning Grand Slam champions. Despite Gauff’s comeback from 5-2 down in the first set and serving for the opener, Sabalenka responded superbly, breaking back and eventually winning the tiebreak.

In the upcoming second semi-final, both contestants aim for their first-ever Grand Slam final appearance. The 12th seed, Qinwen Zheng, is the favorite, seeking to emulate her childhood idol Li Na with a victory in Melbourne. She faces Ukrainian player Dayana Yastremska, who is two matches away from emulating Emma Raducanu’s feat of winning a Grand Slam as a qualifier.
