The Greek lost his chance to claim world number 1 spot with a title
One of the favorites for the Indian Wells title this year – Stefanos Tsitsipas lost in round 2 7-6(0) 4-6 7-6(5) aginast Australian Jordan Thompson on Friday.
Second seed Tsitsipas told reporters on Wednesday that he did not expect to make a deep run at the tournament due to his ailing shoulder and it looks like the injury got the better of him. He was hoping to win the tournament, which would have granted him the world number one spot.
“Tricky match point,” Thompson told reporters after his win. “The ball was only just out and it was a relief that it went out. It was a great feeling. You could see it on my face at the end of the match. I was overcome with joy.”
