World No.1 Iga Swiatek is confident that the thigh injury she picked during her match with Elena Rybakina at the Italian Open will not interfere with her participation at the upcoming French Open, starting on May 28th.
The Polish star left the court in tears, when she had to receive a treatment during a second-set tiebreak before she returned, only to withdraw in the opening games of the third set against Rybakina.
“For sure I feel tired. I think it was the right decision to stop playing because I felt pain when I was stretching, when I did harder movements,” Swiatek said.
“For me, the most important thing is to play it safe and not exploit my body so much in such difficult conditions, after having to play a few matches in night sessions and after midnight.”
The 21-year-old faces a race against time as she aims to recover in time for the French Open, which starts in over a week’s time.
