The club took disciplinary actions despite midfielder's apology

Tottenham Hotspur has suspended midfielder Yves Bissouma for their upcoming Premier League game against Leicester City on Monday after a video surfaced showing him inhaling nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas. Despite the 27-year-old apologizing for what he called a “severe lack of judgment,” the club decided to take disciplinary action.

The video, which Bissouma posted on social media, shows him inhaling from a balloon. Possession of nitrous oxide for recreational use has been a criminal offense in the United Kingdom since 2023, with violators potentially facing a two-year prison sentence.

“We’ve suspended him from Monday’s game,” Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou stated. He emphasized the need for Bissouma to rebuild trust with both himself and the team. “He’s going to have to earn that trust back,” Postecoglou added. “The door is open for him, and hopefully, this incident helps him make better decisions in the future.”
