All eyes, as usual, were on Victor Wembanyama, but the No.1 had a difficult time on his debut at Madison Square Garden. The Frenchman bagged only a single basket in the first three quarters to eventually finish with 14 points.
“You have a 19-year-old rookie who is just learning about the NBA. Of course it’s a learning experience,” San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said.
Jalen Brunson scored 25 points for the Knicks, while RJ Barret added 24 and six assists. Julius Randle finished the game with 23 points and 16 rebounds.
Jeremy Sochan was the highest scorer for Spurs, as he bagged 16 points and six rebounds.
Overall, the Knicks dominated the game and never looked like losing it. At one stage, their lead was as big as 30 points towards the end of the 3rd quarter. But a solid performance from San Antonio in the 4th saw them cut it down to the eventual 20.
